On 31 October 2024, the Master attended the London Scottish Regiment’s annual Hallowe’en dinner with Liveryman and former Officer Commanding of A (London Scottish) Company the London Regiment, Major Jamie Barklem.
The London Scottish Regiment and the Worshipful Company of Distillers have a strong bond, dating back to the original military affiliation entered into on 3 March 1965.
The Livery is represented at the annual event, which is attended by members of the London Scottish Regimental Association, the London Scottish Pipes and Drums and soldiers of G (Messines) Company, the Scots Guards (formerly A (London Scottish Company, The London Regiment).
This year was particularly poignant, marking 110 years since the London Scottish Regiment, the first Reserve Battalion to march into battle in the First World War, fought at Messines Ridge.
We also heard from Lord Robertson, a former Colonel of the London Scottish and former defence minister and Secretary General of NATO, bringing the reality of the challenges our Armed Forces face today, and the significance of its role, into sharp focus.
The Pipes and Drums, who we enjoy the company of at the majority of Livery events, were in fine fettle and Major General Marc Overton, President of the London Scottish Regimental Association reaffirmed the important relationship between the London Scottish and the Worshipful Company of Distillers.
As the London Scottish motto goes, STRIKE SURE.
