Charities We Support

Our principle charity partners are:

The Alcohol Education Trust (AET)

AET Logo

The AET is a charity which works across the UK to keep children safe around alcohol.

The AET is an early intervention charity which supports young people in making more informed life choices through the schools and youth organisations it supports with its award-winning resources. The AET aims to catch children before they begin drinking and help them work out why it makes sense to wait until they are older (if they choose to drink) and how early and heavy drinking increases their risk of injury, accidents and assault and makes them more vulnerable to others. The charity builds children’s resilience and life skills, helping them make responsible, informed choices as they encounter alcohol.

The AET’s interactive activity-based and award-winning “Talk About Alcohol” programme is evidenced to improve knowledge and delay the age that teenagers choose to drink whole drinks. The charity focusses on regions where alcohol harms are highest and have bespoke approaches for those most vulnerable to alcohol, such as looked-after children.

The AET builds parental confidence, knowledge and skills around alcohol and encourages parents to monitor their children and to understand the risks associated with underage drinking, particularly in unsupervised settings.

The Distillers’ Charity is proud to support the work being done by the AET, including helping the AET to start delivering activities in Scotland.

The Drinks Trust

The Drinks Trust logo

The mission of the Drinks Trust (formerly The Benevolent) is to support the members of the drinks industry.

Since 1886, the Drinks Trust has provided care and support to the people who form the drinks industry workforce, both past and present. The charity is funded by industry partners and supported by drinks industry fundraisers, volunteers and contributors. The Trust provides individuals with services across vocational, well-being, financial and practical support. These services are intended to assist with and improve the circumstances of those who receive them. The Drinks Trust is dedicated to helping its community thrive. It can be difficult to access the services that are sometimes required to lead healthy and productive careers in the drinks industry. The Drinks Trust supplies and funds a range of services to those in need, including financial support and private counselling/therapy treatment, as well as operating a daily Helpline.

The Distillers’ Charity is proud to partner with the Drinks Trust to help achieve their goals and has been a core supporter of the Drinks Trust COVID 19 “Your Round” emergency appeal.

The Lord Mayor’s “Better City for All” Appeal – Barking & Dagenham Youth Zone

The mission of the OnSide Youth Zone is to ensure that young people, from disadvantaged communities, achieve their potential. OnSide Zones are designed to give young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to – occupying their bodies and minds with engaging activities, helping them develop new skills and to socialise in a safe, positive and accessible environment. Youth Zones are a safe, non-threatening environment to spend time with friends, enjoy a nutritious hot meal, take part in group activities and learn from adult role models. To young people, a Youth Zone is something truly their own.  It is their place to escape the pressures of normal life and focus on their own development.

Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone, named by young people as ‘Future’, is a purpose-built facility for the borough’s young people and was officially opened in 2019 by the Duke of Sussex.  It is London’s first OnSide Youth Zone thanks to the support of project partners Barking & Dagenham Council, the Queen’s Trust and The Jack Petchey Foundation. The Zone has a membership of over 5,000 young people from the borough.

The Distillers’ Charity is proud to be a supporter of the Barking and Dagenham ‘Future’ Youth Zone, in association with the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
