Practical guidance for your next step
The Distillers’ mentoring programme connects eligible participants with experienced members of the Livery for one-to-one guidance, encouragement and an independent point of view.
Whether you are studying, entering the spirits trade, developing your career or exploring an early-stage business idea, it can help to speak with someone who understands the industry.
The Distillers’ mentoring programme connects eligible participants with experienced members of the Livery for one-to-one guidance, encouragement and an independent point of view.
1. A student studying a spirits or distilling qualification through one of our education partners AND receiving a Distillers-supported bursary, scholarship or award; OR taking part in The Business of Spirits or another Distillers’ education initiative.
2. A Liveryman or Freeman developing a distillery, product or business idea; OR looking for perspective on a specific professional goal or challenge.
Places depend on mentor availability and our ability to make a suitable match.
A mentor can listen, ask useful questions and share relevant experience. Depending on your goals, conversations may help you explore career options, build confidence, approach a new role, develop commercial understanding or test your thinking about a business idea.
Mentoring works best when you are ready to take responsibility for the relationship: arriving prepared, being open about your goals and following through on the actions you agree.
A mentor is not there to provide a job, investment, formal teaching or professional consultancy. They will not make decisions on your behalf. They give experience-led guidance so you can make your own informed choices.
Tell us briefly about your background, your connection to a Distillers’ education programme and what you would like help with. We will review your request and, where possible, identify a member whose experience matches your aims.
