    MembershipNew member briefings

Online new member briefings are for anyone considering joining The Distillers’ Company.

A straightforward introduction to the Distillers

You may already be in conversation with a proposer, be partway through the application process or simply want to understand what a livery company is. The session is a friendly, accessible introduction, with no expectation that you already know the terminology or traditions.

    What the briefing covers

    The session introduces:

    • The history and purpose of the livery movement
    • The role of The Distillers’ Company today
    • The Company’s relationship with the spirits industry
    • Charitable, educational and civic activity
    • Events, clubs and ways members can participate
    • The principal routes and stages involved in joining
    • The responsibilities and costs associated with membership

There is also time to ask questions and hear a member’s first-hand perspective on Company life.

    Who you will hear from

Briefings are delivered by members of the Clerk’s Office together with an existing Liveryman, often a member of the Court. This combines practical guidance on the application process with a personal view of what membership is like.

    Informal, online and without obligation

The briefing is held online every other month, so it is accessible wherever you are based. Taking part does not commit you to applying and does not form part of the Company’s approval process.

It is an opportunity to understand the Company more clearly, meet members and decide whether you would like to continue the conversation.
