    Privacy notice

    Version 1.1Effective 5 September 2026

    Who we are

    This privacy notice is issued by The Worshipful Company of Distillers (the “Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are a Livery Company of the City of London. The Clerk’s Office is based at Apothecaries’ Hall, Black Friars Lane, London EC4V 6ER.

    The Company is the controller for personal data processed in connection with this website, membership of the Company, Company events and related communications.

    The members’ area at members.distillers.org.uk is a separate service. That service may have its own notices covering how membership accounts are managed there.

    The Distillers’ Charity is a separate organisation. If you contact the Charity, donate, or apply for funding, its own privacy notice applies.

    The information we collect

    We collect information from you when you use a form on this website, register your interest in membership, subscribe to updates, respond to a survey, report a concern, or otherwise contact the Clerk’s Office.

    Depending on how you get in touch, we may ask for:

    • your name and preferred name;
    • email address, telephone number and postal address;
    • organisation, role and your connection to the spirits industry or the Company;
    • the subject of your enquiry and the message you send us; and
    • your communication preferences, including whether you wish to receive news and invitations.

    If you are a member, or are progressing towards membership, we also hold the personal data needed to record your engagement with the Company and to manage your membership. That typically includes your name, address, telephone numbers, email address and other details you or a proposer provide.

    We do not store credit card details on this website. Where a payment is required for an event or other service, it is handled by the relevant payment provider.

    When you use a form on this website, we and our security provider (Cloudflare Turnstile) may also collect technical and security data such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, and challenge results. We use this to help detect and block automated abuse.

    How we use your information

    We use your name, address, telephone numbers, email address and other personal data to record your engagement with the Company and to manage your membership. We also use it to communicate with you about Company activities that may be of interest to you.

    Any of the information we collect from you may be used:

    • to identify you and respond to your enquiry;
    • to process applications to attend Company events;
    • to administer membership, including Freemen and Liverymen;
    • to send news, updates and invitations where you have asked to receive them;
    • to let you know about other City of London and Livery Company related events;
    • to supply your name and address to the City of London Corporation for inclusion in the Common Hall Electoral Register, where that applies to your membership;
    • to supply your name for inclusion in the City of London Directory and Livery Companies Guide (the “Blue Book”), where that applies to your membership;
    • to improve this website and the way we respond to enquiries; and
    • to detect and prevent fraud or misuse of our forms and services.

    We will never sell your personal data. We will not pass it to third parties for their own marketing.

    When we share information

    For security purposes, your name may be given to the management and caterers of venues — for example Livery Halls and the Mansion House — where the Company is holding a function that you attend.

    We do not sell, trade or otherwise transfer your personal data to outside parties, except to trusted third parties who help us operate this website, run Company business or deliver a service you have requested, and who are required to keep that information confidential.

    We may also release information when we believe that is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our website policies, or protect the rights, property or safety of the Company or others.

    This website may include links to third-party websites. Those sites have their own privacy notices. We are not responsible for their content or practices.

    When we protect forms with Cloudflare Turnstile, technical and security data may be processed by Cloudflare. That processing may involve transfers outside the UK, as described in Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum.

    Cookies

    We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our cookie policy and management page. That page explains the categories we use and how you can manage them.

    Form security

    When you submit a form on this website (for example contact, membership interest, mentoring, newsletter signup, club or committee enquiry, or a conduct concern), we use Cloudflare Turnstile to help confirm the submission is made by a person rather than an automated bot.

    Turnstile runs in your browser on form pages and produces a one-time token. Our servers verify that token with Cloudflare before we store or email your submission. We discard the token after verification. We do not enable Cloudflare’s optional clearance cookie on this site.

    Cloudflare may process technical and security data as described in its Turnstile privacy addendum. Further detail is in our cookie policy and management page.

    How we protect your information

    Your name, address, telephone numbers, email address and other personal data may be recorded on a database managed by the Clerk’s Office. That is the data used to communicate with you.

    We implement security measures to protect personal information when you submit a form or otherwise provide details to us. This website is served over HTTPS.

    How long we keep information

    We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, including to meet legal, accounting or reporting requirements, or to maintain an accurate membership record.

    Website enquiry forms are kept for as long as needed to respond and follow up. Membership records are retained for the duration of membership and for a reasonable period afterwards where we have a legitimate need to keep them.

    Your rights

    Under UK data protection law you have rights in relation to your personal data, including the right to be informed, to access the data we hold, to have inaccurate data corrected, to ask for data to be erased in certain circumstances, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it.

    To exercise these rights, contact the Clerk’s Office using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at www.ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first.
