Your experience can help someone developing a career
We welcome Freemen and Liverymen who are willing to listen, encourage and share what they have learned. Mentors can be based anywhere in the UK or overseas.
The Distillers’ Company holds a wide range of knowledge across its membership. Mentoring turns that collective experience into personal, practical support for someone developing a career in the spirits industry.
We welcome Freemen and Liverymen who are willing to listen, encourage and share what they have learned. Mentors can be based anywhere in the UK or overseas.
There is no single model for a useful mentor. We need people with experience across the industry, including:
What matters most is that you can make time for thoughtful conversations, respect appropriate boundaries and help a mentee develop their own judgement.
Mentors provide a sounding board and share relevant experience. You might help a mentee make sense of career options, prepare for a transition, build confidence, understand commercial realities or work through the early stages of an idea.
The mentoring team considers each mentee’s aims and looks for a suitable match. Once introduced, you and your mentee agree the focus of the relationship and a workable pattern of contact.
Mentoring is a way to give something back to the industry. It can also introduce you to new perspectives, and to people and ideas from different parts of the trade.
Each match continues the Livery custom of passing skills and knowledge forward.
Tell us about your experience, the areas in which you feel able to help and any preferences that would support a good match.
