
The Institute of Brewing & Distilling was originally established as The Laboratory Club in 1886. From inception, our mission has been to provide excellence in technical education for professional brewers and distillers in their pursuit of perfection.
Although the headquarters are in London, the IBD is an institution with worldwide membership. Our qualifications, delivered at different levels of expertise, are globally recognised. More than 100,000 industry professionals from 90 countries have acquired their knowledge with us since the mid-1940s.

Scholarships and Bursary Applications
The Worshipful Company of Distillers’ provides annual bursaries and scholarships for IBD spirit qualifications as follows:
- Two bursaries for the general certificate in distilling.
- Two grants per year, for 3 years, for the diploma in distilling (Dip Distill).
- A scholarship for top performance in the new L3 diploma module.
All applications for the above and all other IBD prizes and awards should be made via the IBD, not the Worshipful Company of Distillers.
